Beech Mountain’s Totally 80’s Retro Ski Weekend will now bend the space-time continuum for four days – Thursday, Feb. 18, through Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016. During this fifth annual celebration, the town and ski resort come together to create a righteously rad experience. There is live 80’s music nightly, retro skiing daily and plenty of throwback activities in between.

New this year is Totally Tubular Snow Tubing at Beech Mountain Resort, as well as a Rubik’s Cube Contest at the Beech Mountain Brewing Co. Also new is a PacMan Contest and Hot Tub Time Machine Trivia Contest. Our good friends from the Carolina Ghostbusters return along with their Ecto-mobile – just like the one in the movie.

The lineup of nightly bands totally rocks. Cassette Rewind plays Thursday night at Famous Fast Eddie’s, while SPANK is on tap Friday night at Mile High Tavern. SPANK is the hottest retro band in East Tennessee and making its first appearance in Beech Mountain.

And make sure to come to the Beech Tree Bar & Grille at the ski resort Saturday night for 80’s Explosion. This high-energy spandex-clad band will play all the big hits from the 1980s, complete with big hair.Saturday’s festivities will again include the Totally Retro Apparel Contest with its $500 first-place prize. The prize goes to the person whose apparel is the most authentic from the Best Decade Ever.

Special guest appearances are in the works, and everyone is strongly encouraged to wear 80’s ski garb on the slopes and retro fashions off the slopes. So dig out those bandanas, leg warmers, acid-wash jeans, Members Only jackets, parachute pants and dayglo muscle shirts. And start thinking fourth-dimensionally.

This February 18-21, we take you back to a time when ski clothes featured shoulder pads, rock stars wore spandex, and video killed the radio star.
