The Snowmaking Lead will provide direction, leadership, and expertise to the Beech Mountain Resort Snowmaking department. This individual will lead the training and management of snowmakers and will oversee winter snowmaking operations, snow grooming, and maintain snow grooming equipment, as well as summer maintenance and construction projects. They must also problem solve issues to ensure a safe and efficient working environment. Through the non-operating months, the position will include equipment repair and installation, slope maintenance, general facility upkeep, and manual labor.
Responsibilities:
- Schedule and direct personnel
- Reliably complete payroll and administrative duties
- Able to train and supervise snowmakers on the mountain
- Manage and schedule system maintenance projects
- Have a positive attitude with internal and external customers
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and improve automated snowmaking and automated control systems
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and improve manual snowmaking infrastructure
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and improve fully automated and manual fan guns
- Troubleshoot and maintain snow grooming equipment
- Able to groom all terrain in an expert manner
- Able to respond quickly to requests from Management
- Safe operation of all equipment at all times
- Must follow policies and procedures outlined in the Beech Mountain Resort handbook
- Must be able to take on additional tasks and assignments assigned by the manager
Requirements or Qualifications:
- Previous mountain operations experience is required
- Complex understanding of snowmaking systems and techniques
- Previous snow grooming experience
- Knowledge of snow grooming equipment maintenance and mechanics
- Previous snowmaking experience at the supervisor or manager level is required
- Must have the ability to ski or snowboard in a competent manner
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of the resort industry
- Work in adverse weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind, rain, and on variable surfaces
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, and raking are required
- Must be able to operate ATV, snowmobile, mowing, snow grooming, and general construction equipment
- Valid driver’s license
- Reliable transportation required, with the ability to navigate snowy or winter conditions
