Closing Day Celebration and Pond Skim
March 14 @ 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Beech Mountain Resort will celebrate the 100th day of the winter season and Closing Day on Saturday, March 14, with its annual Pond Skim, one of the most anticipated spring traditions on the mountain.
The event will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and invites skiers and snowboarders to attempt to glide across a cold water pond while showing off their most creative and entertaining costumes. Spectators are encouraged to gather along the course to watch participants skim, splash, and compete for prizes. Skiing and snowboarding will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with weekday lift ticket rates in effect for the day.
Pond Skim Registration participation is limited to the first 100 competitors who pre register. All participants must be fully registered prior to the start of the event.
Competitors must have a valid lift ticket, be at least 48 inches tall, and 12 years of age or older. Helmets are required for all participants.
Competitor Check In
Check in will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Group Sales. All competitors must check in during this window to confirm their participation.
Participants must report to the top of the pond by 2 p.m. The event will begin promptly and competitors will take turns in bib order. Late arrivals will not be permitted to compete.
A mandatory competitor meeting will be held at 1:45 p.m. at the top of the pond.
Event Rules
Costumes are encouraged and should be creative and entertaining. However, ski poles and nudity are not permitted.
Each participant will compete individually and group skimming is not allowed. Approaching the pond backwards is also prohibited.
If a competitor falls into the pond, they must remain in the water and wait for staff assistance to exit safely. Attempting to walk out of the pond may damage the liner.
Participants are advised to remove valuables such as jewelry, watches, and sunglasses prior to competing. Beech Mountain Resort is not responsible for lost items.
Failure to follow event guidelines may result in disqualification.
Alcohol Policy
Any alcoholic beverages purchased from the lodge bar must be consumed in designated areas. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the snow or near the pond.
Lodge Deck Party and Après Celebration
The celebration continues throughout the afternoon with a deck party at the lodge from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. featuring a DJ, photo booth, games, and closing day festivities.
