Contest Extended Due to Inclement Weather
Due to inclement weather in the NC Mountain counties and surrounding areas, the Learn to Ski Poster Contest has been extended through February 28th. We understand that many school districts have had numerous school closings for the month of January. As a result, most students have not been able to meet with their classroom and art teachers to work on their artwork for this year’s contest.
January was National Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month andBeech Mountain Resort sponsored the third annual Learn to Ski Poster Contest for 3rd though 5th graders nationwide. The theme for the contest is “Be Healthy, Be Active, and Learn to Ski & Rideâ€. All entries must be original, flat, two-dimensional drawings, paintings or renderings no smaller than 8.5 by 11 inches and no larger than 11 by 17 inches. No photographs will be permitted. The NEW deadline for submission is February 28, 2014. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in male and female categories. Winners will be announced March 1st and will receive various beginner ski and snowboard package deals.

In addition to the physical health benefits, skiing and snowboarding promote mental wellness during the winter months, by keeping people active. Talia Freeman, Beech Mountain Resort Marketing Director, believes the low number of winter-sport participants is often attributed to the perceived high cost of the sport, combined with the intimidation of trying something new and different.
