Folks from all walks of life showed up to the High Country in droves for some seriously nostalgic fun at Beech Mountain Resort last weekend for Totally ’80s Retro Ski Weekend!

Sporting their boldest neons and their biggest hair, guests hit the slopes, made new friends, partied with popular ’80s music and participated in a variety of decade-specific games, events and competitions.

The Raleigh fashion blogger and App State grad behind Sara Kate Styling, who never misses the annual retro celebration, recently posted about her experience at this year’s events.

“Everyone dresses in their wildest neons, retro ski one pieces and fanny packs to ‘butters the gnar’ with all of the other avid ’80s lovers,” she wrote. “The entire weekend is packed with thematic events including Pac Man competitions, trivia nights and apparel contests. The best part? Definitely the immediate camaraderie! Everyone you meet is instantly a new friend! It’s simply the best!”

Several celebs were on hand for guest appearances, including emcee Dave Aiken from Greensboro Rock 92 and Newhart sitcom actor John Voldstad.

Retro tribute groups Cassette Rewind, SPANK and ’80s Explosion kept the party going each night.

In a matter of 38.8 seconds, 10-year-old Sean Eldridge of Kingsport, Tennessee earned a spot in the Rubik’s Cube championship round, along with other finalists Jason Hassing of Fort Mill, South Carolina and Jon Hickock of Banner Elk. Eldridge took home the win with 46.71 seconds in the final round.

Hailing from Atlanta, Tadd West rocked out the Hot Tub Time Machine trivia contest by triumphing over 21 other competitors, and he also won the Ms. Pac Man competition with an impressive 85,860 score.

The weather was perfect and the slopes were packed with friends and family who rocked their coolest dayglo ski gear for the four-day series of events, which marked one of the resort’s busiest ski weekends of the season.

What’s up next at Beech Mountain? Don’t miss the wRECklESS Rail Jam on Saturday!
